Affirmations

Kirsten has a calm and steady presence that feels very grounding and reassuring. She gently offers insights that surprise me with their accuracy and empathy. Working with her feels like being held with great care and lightness. She always meets me right where I am and I leave each conversation with far more than I expected.

Kirsten Bohl is one of those special souls that changes your life for the better just by her presence. Having known her in both a professional and personal capacity I can say from my heart that she has the both the gentleness and fortitude of spirit to stand with you no matter your need. Her intuitive gifts are deep and very powerful and the devotion she brings to her own healing and mastery serves as a testament to her love of humankind. Kirsten has walked with me though challenging times and met me in dark places. She has a brilliant and colorful way of engaging with life and I am honored to call her friend.

Kirsten and I met in Barnesville, Ohio; most of our journeys took the form of walks throughout the woodlands of southeastern Ohio. The natural setting, combined with her acute sensitivity and energy awareness, helped me speak freely about whatever was on my mind. Our walks as well as periodic "check-ins" helped me develop my own awareness of energy and sense of space. Accompaniment by Kirsten helped me, to paraphrase Kahlil Gibran, "meet the soul walking upon my path."

I love that Kirsten has chosen to call this work “accompaniment,” not “guidance.” Kirsten listens deeply, with her whole body. The gentleness, respect, love and depth of the work / play that Kirsten does is like a series of walks in the woods. In the woods, everything is worth a look, there may or may not be a path, and the best guide might be walking behind you.

I participated in a lunch with Kirsten and several friends on the topic of perimenopause. The wisdom Kirsten shared with us that day has literally changed my life. It has allowed me to take this transition seriously, and to give my body and spirit the support that I need to feel as good as I can during what is turning out to be a time of intense physical and emotional changes. I had never heard the information Kirsten shared on that day from anyone else, and the supportive and companionable environment of a meeting in a small group of women in her warm and inviting home allowed me to be open to her message of self-care and transformation.

As a Black woman, every aspect of my life is impacted by my identity. Before I even speak, there is an idea about who I am, what I do, and what I believe. Stereotypes, good or bad, always proceed me. And I know that this is not a unique experience, but it is mine. Will I be seen as loud, angry, smart, strong, gentle, compassionate, kind, thoughtful, hurtful,...?

For many of us, these thoughts on how we are perceived based on how we look can hinder our full participation in spaces that can be emotionally hostile. These stereotypes are all fruit from the same tree: white supremacy. And we must all acknowledge that we have harvested and tasted this fruit. But this has allowed the tree to grow and thrive. What we all must do, together as a community, is cut down that tree and dismantle its roots.

We can be not just allies, but co-conspirators working in solidarity to catalyze change. Only then can we ensure that this tree will not bear fruit. Because it is not enough for us to say we just won’t eat the fruit, we must make sure that no one does.

I appreciate that I have been able to work alongside Kirsten in many avenues of this work. We have worked together to share with school-aged children a love of mathematics using diverse perspectives and diverse people. Advocating for the idea that anyone and everyone can have a positive mathematics identity, we are co-conspirators working towards changing who the math community is.

My life was in a state of flurry when I first met Kirsten. We were at an event, two strangers sitting next to each other. But there was an immediate, knowing, joyful connection. Now I know why. Since that moment, Kirsten has gifted me with incredible witnessing and insights, helping me make spiritual and energy shifts to regain right relationship with myself during times when I became noticeably unbalanced. In quiet times, her gentle energy offered spoken reflections that touched me with incredible power – words that I still reflect upon years later. As well, her inquisitive questions, asked in tender spirit but with compelling purpose, guided me to see my own answers when I believed I didn’t know. Kirsten’s accompaniment is a breath of fresh air, a deep inhalation of spirit, life, joy, and peace.

Kirsten is experienced with spiritual accompaniment and she models listening to and honoring one's own inner wisdom. Her love of and connection to the natural world and her keen insight and ability to speak guidance she receives are just part of her magic. The blank paper and colorful markers nearby invite me to play and move forward in wonder with a reminder of what transpired.

I enjoy reading the spiritual knowledge you gain through each experience that you talk about, especially when it comes to those you meet along the way, whether people or tiny creatures, you have the same reverence, awe, and respect for what they have to say to you.

Thank you for sharing your journeys in life with all who come to read. You are great at story-telling and giving us the feel of what you are experiencing.

When we first met, I remember asking you to take off your glasses because I wanted to see the real you and that's exactly what you have been to me, very, very real. You have been a great advocate and "soul-sister" from the time that we first talked.

You understand where I'm coming from with my creative, spiritual, and humanity-loving projects for unity and showing the connectedness we all have through my artistic expressions of "Mama-A'free'ca" that I'm working on, and you have been a great advocate and champion for making sure I am able to present myself and my creative endeavors in their fullest capacity.

Thank you for being there when I needed you and also taking time to step back when you need to so that you can reflect quietly by yourself and heal.

Just keep being yourself. You are enough. I appreciate you for looking at things from an enlarged perspective, putting on your proverbial glasses so that you can see things clearly, and being vulnerable enough to emotionally take them off for all of us, so that we can clearly see you! You're a great friend, to me and to the planet!

When I went for an MRI scan and follow-up meetings with oncologists about the scan, Kirsten spiritually accompanied me and held my intentions for healing during the times of my appointments. Kirsten then sent me the beautiful images and words that came up for her during those times. I was in awe of how deeply Kirsten's notes resonated with my experience -- both the parts of my experience that I was aware of, and also the parts of my experience that I could faintly sense, but not name. In being accompanied by Kirsten, I felt seen, understood, and cared for -- both by Kirsten and by the universe as a whole. Kirsten helped me feel and see this care in ways nothing else did -- and her images also helped clarify some next steps in healing for me. I highly recommend her accompaniment! She is a powerful vehicle for grace and healing medicine.

My session with Kirsten was relaxing and fun at the same time, and I learned so much about the human body and about myself. I left the session thinking about myself in new ways, but I didn’t fully appreciate it until many months later when I realized how much I had been tapping into the perspective Kirsten opened up for me, i.e. tapping into the Feminine Divine, and how sustaining that was.
